walks

There are certain paths in life where every footstep becomes a brushstroke, painting meaning upon the canvas of our days.

When I wander through the open markets near my home, it feels as though I am weaving through a tapestry of abundance. Each stall overflows with colour and scent, yet in the midst of this plenty, a single thread tugs at my memory—a person whose life was an endless scramble for scraps. His story is stitched into my strolls; while my hands are free to choose, his were always reaching, hoping for enough. Same marketplace, different tables set.

Temples and churches rise like ancient anchors along my journey, echoing with the prayers I once cast into the air like paper lanterns. I remember the hopeful flames—some flickered out before sunrise, others soared out of sight. I often questioned the silence that followed my pleas, only to find, as time unfolded, that unanswered prayers were seeds of endurance. Same prayers sown, different harvests reaped.

In gardens and garden centers, I drift through rows of green possibilities. Here, the soil is a gentle teacher—each handful is a lesson, each planted seed a quiet hope. I wonder if I can coax such life from my own patch of earth, if solitude here is true peace or simply the illusion of independence. Soil and soul, both yearning to bloom.

When my steps carry me to breathtaking vistas—those landscapes that stretch and shimmer—I feel my spirit unfurl like a leaf in sunlight. My heart dances among wildflowers, imagining a life entwined with nature, tending to earth and animals. Is this purposeful living, or living with purpose? Sometimes the questions are the roots holding me in place.

Dark roads and empty spaces are shadowed corridors in my memory. Each echoing footfall summons old ghosts—moments of loss, threat, or cruelty. These spaces, though empty, are heavy with what once was, yet each step forward becomes an act of healing. Shadows linger, but dawn eventually breaks through.

As I meander through the stories and lives of others, I find myself at crossroads—some journeys I join, others I simply witness before moving on. Those who value the footprints I leave, I linger with, offering my ear and my heart. Others pass by, leaving their own imprints—joyful or sorrowful—on the path behind me. Some companions are fleeting, others become constellations in my sky.

Walking is more than movement; it is a daily pilgrimage through nature and humanity, each encounter a stone in the mosaic of who we are. So with each step, I try to notice, to honor, and above all, to be grateful for the world unfolding beneath my feet.
