journey of a flower
My aunt kindly dug up two plants for me to take back to the city, but they began to wither as soon as I repotted them in my house. After two weeks, my heart sank when they died. I felt devastated, having failed to nurture them properly. One day, while wandering through a flower market, I spotted another Glory Bower and decided to bring it home. Although it’s still with me in my garden, it doesn’t bloom as often since it’s placed in a shadier spot. The plant is sensitive to heat, and its leaves droop after just an hour in the sun. I can’t help but worry I’ll make the same mistake again.
This experience has made me reflect on the places in life where we truly thrive, as well as the environments that can either uplift or hinder us. There are circumstances that can transform us into stronger individuals, yet there are also unfortunate events that can cause physical and emotional pain. Life can be draining, which is why we need to create safer spaces—worlds where we can flourish, find happiness, and grow into better versions of ourselves.
I took that plant away from its natural habitat, and although it brought me two weeks of joy, I ultimately altered its environment, leading to its demise. When I lived in a building that looked opulent from the outside, chaos reigned within. After moving to a smaller, more affordable house, I realized my neighbors were not supportive. Additionally, staying too long in a workplace where my efforts went unrecognized left me feeling undervalued.
This journey has taught me the importance of seeking out places and passions that bring us to life. Pursuing what we love, embracing life’s challenges with hope, and surrounding ourselves with positive influences—whether in our homes, workplaces, hobbies, or relationships—can lead to a more fulfilling life.
