The White Temple of Chiang Rai

There were many tourist spots in Chiang Rai but most prominent and well-visited was a temple called White Temple.  It was called such for one obvious reason, most of the built and ornate decors were white in colour.  Astoundingly modern for such a traditional country,  the huge landscape of whiteness was in complete contrast to rainbow-filled or gold encrusted decors of Thai temples. 

Upon entry, a yellow-gold temple being built greeted the visitors as they entered the premises.  Some construction were ongoing but these did not deter visitors to be in awe by the grandeur of the place, and of the temples. 

Since there were thousands of visitors at the time I was there, which was the New Year, I opted to take photographs of details instead.  I always tell myself that nothing is more beautiful than looking at the minutest of details to appreciate something grand.

Wat Rong Khun was built from the artistic endeavour of National Artist Chaletmchai Kositpipat.  He envisioned a temple so unique from the known Buddhist temples found in Thailand.  

And the most striking of all the art pieces were two sets of hands and arms reaching out to the sky.  These were at the entry of the biggest temple there was along the ground.  It signified hardship and suffering from our worldly lives.  As we walked through the steps, the pathway symbolized more Buddhist meanings of doing the right path and  enlightenment.
